UT Girls’ Day 2023

The share of women in science, technology and IT is only 16%! One of the consequences is that employers are missing out a huge pool of talent. Also, we believe that new technologies should be designed and made by a diverse group of people, which is crucial for the development of science and society. We need to inspire and encourage more female to get interested at science, technology and IT!

On March 30, 2023, Pre-University / University of Twente welcomed about 100 girls from the east of the Netherlands on the UT campus in honor of the national Girls' Day. It was a great opportunity for ONCHIPS EU project, TOPSQUAD project and The NanoElectronics (NE) group at University of Twente to promote their research field to young female students. PhD candidates Reinier Cool, Amber Heskes and Femke Witman shared their enthusiasm for their research work in the field of nanoelectronics, which will play an increasingly important role in future information technology. It was amazing to watch the presentation of magnetic levitation experiment together with a group of schoolgirls. And, we had ice cream made for everybody! Thanks to the PhDs from NE group. It has been surely a fun and inspiring program for everybody there. Hopefully we will see these enthusiastic ladies back at the UT in the coming years, to study and to work in the field of science, technology and IT in their future.
